Lviv Tram Tour

Perhaps the most traditional Lviv tour of them all.

Lviv has been graced by trams since 1880. In the beginning, they were horse-drawn, then driven by steam, before electric trams were introduced in the 1890s when Siemens & Halske from Germany won the tender.

Between 1941-1944, Lviv trams moved Jews from the ghetto to mass shooting sites. In more recent times, our trams and tramlines have, for the most part, been modernized, but it's a slow process. Now we have a small number of Electron trams, paid for by Europe, of course.

We move on the older "Tatra" trams made in the Czech Republic over fifty years ago. Indeed, this type of tram is still the most common in Lviv. When bystanders see them winding around our old streets, time stands still.

Where does the Lviv Tram Tour go? We alight at three "destinations" and travel the length and breadth of several routes that pass through some of the most beautiful parts of old Lviv.

One destination is our rather famous cemetery, "Lychakiv"; the second, the entrance point to the former Lviv ghetto, while the third is where russian missiles landed on one of our most beautiful streets in September, 2024, killing civilians and destroying homes. There, we pay our respects.

We shun modernized trams and tramlines, opting instead to travel on the oldest trams and tramlines in Lviv, some of which have been with us for over a century. If you have arrived here from the US or Europe, prepare to be old-worlded!

Become familiar with how most Lvivians move around their city, the rich tapestry of their history the perpetual background.

Our trams connect the greys of Soviet Lviv, architectural classicism synonymous with Austro-Hungarian and Polish Lviv, with modern Ukrainian Lviv. Enjoy the view!

Lviv Tram Tour is a trip back in time led by a local historian expert Lviv tour guide. We include en route food and an optional shot stop for the venturesome at journey's end.
